Overview:

Abstract: The subject of the present Bachelor-Thesis is a textile fragment dated into the 19th century. This archaeological find was recovered in 2012 during an excavation in Münchenbernsdorf, a town Thuringia, East Germany. The aim of this thesis is to identify the textile fragment. First the object will be described, then put into its historical context, and a hypothesis to the supposed function will be proposed. Afterwards, scientific investigations into the material will follow, with an analysis of fibres and metals used. Furthermore, the weaving technique of the lace will be analysed and described. Finally, the presumed identity of the archaeological find will be discussed on the basis of the accumulated results.
